What is Wellness?
Wellness is defined as the quality of being in good health, especially as an actively sought and dynamic goal. Commonly, wellness is divided into 8 components:
- Physical
- Spiritual
- Emotional
- Social
- Intellectual
- Environmental
- Financial
- Occupational
The most obvious role therapy has in the ongoing process of wellness is to directly attend to the emotional or psychological aspects of your well-being. However, I view therapy from a wholistic perspective and believe that all components of wellness need to work together in an interdependent fashion. For a true sense of well-being, we need to cultivate each aspect while also finding ways to create a dynamic balance between them. A good therapeutic relationship can both directly address your mental health and emotional needs while also supporting you in the orchestration of creating balance.
